This version of Baryonyx must have been contemporary with the original, possibly representing a second mold in limited use to increase production capacity. The paint scheme is very similar though with a much lighter mint green vinyl base, very pale and almost white in color. The info text on the belly is completely different and embossed with wide lettering over a smoothed out area, unlike the other version which has tight lettering embossed over scale detail. The feet are also molded at a higher angle which results in the model standing in a tripod pose rather than crouching. It is likely this alternate mold was used to increase production capacity for the purposes of European distribution.

Above: Two 1998 molds compared. Thanks to Everett M. for info and photos!

This later version of Baryonyx is made of less glossy plastic with a slightly darker green color. The paint application on the sides has been simplified, with hard lines between the light and dark green. The head appears to have been slightly retooled to have more sharply defined teeth, and it also narrower. The info stamp on the belly is in the 3-line Wild Safari style, pinning this as a c. 2012 release.
