Only a year after the introduction of the 1:10 scale Psittacosaurus, the Carnegie Collection indruduced yet another scale in the form of the 1:20 scale Tanystropheus. This is also the first and only Carnegie with an "action feature" - a posable neck. Like old Gumbie or Bend-Ems toys, a metal wire inserted into the soft plastic, which is perforated by paired holes on the underside, allow the neck to be bent into a variety of positions. The original Tanystropheus toy was brightly colored with vivid blues and greens reminiscent of a tree snake.

In case anyone was curious what the bendy wire inside Carnegie's Tanystropheus looks like, user stemturtle at the old Dino Toy Forum took one for the team.

Along with many other models as part of a line refresh, the Carnegie Tanystropheus was given an all-new color scheme in 2007, though the sculpt appears to have remained the same.
