This was the first full remake of the Carnegie Triceratops, following a slight re-molding in 1997. Like the corresponding remake of Tyrannosaurus, this model is significantly larger than earlier sculpts, making it closer to 1:35 scale than 1:40. Also like the "anniversary" T. rex, it seems to have suffered from some mold problems, including a slightly warped beak and brow horns that are mismatched in diameter. Also like the Anniversary T. rex, more detail was put into the paint application of this model compared to contemporary releases, including being fully painted without exposed color vinyl (the underlying plastic and light gray base coat are actually almost identical in color, but not quite, which makes it more surprising Safari opted to apply a full base coat rather than letting the plastic color form the base).

I own two copies of this figure, one produced before 2004 (included in a 2004 FAO Schwartz box set) and one produced in 2010 based on the production stamp on the foot. There seem to have been little to no changes to the model between those years as both models are nearly identical.

This version is very similar to the original but is a "color vinyl" version as it lacks a full base coat of paint. Rather, the light gray base color is the color of the base plastic. It also has more extensive dark gray/black paint, especially on the head. Thanks to Everett M. for photos and info of this version!

This version is the newest one based on the updated info text style, which is embossed in three lines rather than four, has dropped the model number, and added the scale. Curiously, by this production run they seem to have gone back to the original lighter aesthetic with less prominent back paint on the head. The eye is also painted smaller and rounder, perhaps an intentional correction to the large eyes of the older versions. Thanks to Everett M. for photos and info of this version!
